Seeing Double: Throwing the Perfect Baby Shower for Twins
Guest Post by: Kimberly Bryant
Double the babies, double the fun! Celebrate the mommy-to-be of two by planning a baby shower fit for twins. Thankfully, with these tips, you won’t have to work twice as hard to throw a party that is perfect for receiving two bundles of joy.
Theme
First things first, you’ll need to decide on your baby shower theme. Once you have a general idea of what your party should look like, all the other details will fall into place. While you’re trying to come up with an appropriate theme, keep in mind the gender of the twins, mom’s personality and your budget.
Remember to think outside the box. Your theme doesn’t necessarily have to scream “twins” in blue and pink shades. You can consider other creative ideas like a Two Peas in a Pod or a Perfect Pear (get it?) party. You can use Catch My Party as a resource when searching for the perfect theme.
Invitations
If mom’s entire social circle isn’t in the know about the twins, the invitation you send will break the news. Choose an invitation that will convey that two babies are on the way and make sure that the color scheme and design matches the party’s theme. For example, these Dr. Seuss Thing 1 and Thing 2 baby shower invitations immediately convey the theme and the double good news.
An invitation won’t do any good, regardless of how beautiful it is, if you don’t include the necessary information. Don’t forget to name the mom-to be, gender of the twins, time, date, location, directions, RSVP details (with phone number) and gift registry information.
Decor
Now comes the fun part. Wait, who am I kidding? The whole process of planning a baby shower is fun! Choosing the proper decor will either make or break your party, so make sure you’re always keeping your theme in mind.
If you’re feeling crafty, stay under your budget limit by opting to make some of the decor yourself. The Martha Stewart site has a great collection of DIY baby shower decorations, like tissue paper pom-poms and clip-art letter banners. If you’re having twin girls and have decided on a girly, floral theme, consider making table centerpieces with bright, floral bouquets. Choose flowers that match your other decor and don’t be afraid to stray from traditional baby colors.
Games
What’s a baby shower without games? Create a list of games you’d like to play during the party, along with a tentative schedule to keep things flowing smoothly. Give your guests an incentive to play by giving out prizes to the winners. Here are some baby shower games that can be adapted for twins:

What’s a baby shower without games? Create a list of games you’d like to play during the party, along with a tentative schedule to keep things flowing smoothly. Give your guests an incentive to play by giving out prizes to the winners. Here are some baby shower games that can be adapted for twins:
-
Freeze small plastic babies into ice cubes and instruct your guests to take two (for twins) and place them in their drink. When the ice melts and both babies float to the top, the first place winner must shout, “My water broke!”
-
Create two teams and see which one can put diapers on twin baby dolls in the shortest amount of time, while using only one hand.
-
This matching game will have everyone in a frenzy. First, make a list of items that come in pairs and give each of your guests three single items in a bag. For example, if Guest A is given a salt shaker he or she must find Guest B who has the pepper shaker.
