Why you need to Tweet this week

Do you tweet?  Do you participate in Twitter parties? If you DO then this is going to be an awesome week. If you DON'T or never have then this is the week to start.

Here are just a couple of reasons you need to be on twitter this week:

(*See below for help if you are new to twitter)

TRAVELINGMOM:  Every Monday night at 9pm eastern time the travelingmoms meet on twitter using the hashtag #TMOM to talk about a variety of subjects.  This week they are talking about holiday travel and what to do if there are travel delays etc.  It is a great time to chat with other moms who have been there and find out what they do when travel plans are all of a sudden changed drastically.  It is one thing to have this happen when you are traveling alone but it is an entirely different situation when you have kids in tow.

You may not travel alot but these twitter parties are always fun AND they are typically sponsored which means that there are great prizes that are randomly drawn and awarded to participants of the twitter party.

CLICK HERE to RSVP for the #TMOM party and find out more information on this topic.

COMMON CENTS MOM: This Tuesday from 7-8pm eastern time the folks at Common Cents Mom are chatting all about getting ready for Black Friday.  There is a new app that will help you find that perfect item you are looking for at the price you can afford.  This is also a sponsored party with a $50 Visa gift card up for grabs to a lucky participant.  The great thing about this twitter party is that it is open to both US and Canadian participants. (Not all twitter parties are because of prize / giveaway rules that vary from country to country)

CLICK HERE to RSVP for the #CDNmoney chat and find out more about the topic and the prizes.

You can find and follow Stay at Home Mom on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/sahm411 and stay up to day with our news and community updates.  But also you can send us your links and updates and we'll check them out.   We also have a Gplus community.  This is where you can post links to your blog posts.

But Back to Twitter.

I adore Twitter because if I need to know anything I can search for that on Twitter and I will get the straight scoop from people right away.

I also love Twitter because my teenagers post their thoughts and their favorite song lyrics in 140 charactors or less and it gives me a snap shot into their real thoughts.  When they get home from school I can ask them how their day went and the answer is typically "Fine" as they make their way to the kitchen for an after school snack.  But when I read their Twitter I can see what is important enough for them to tweet about.

If you have never participated in a Twitter party I would encourage you to seek one out, put it on your calendar and join in this week.

RECAP

MONDAY: #TMOM #WINTERHAPPENS 9pm EST

TUESDAY: #CDNmoney 7pm EST

NOTE: You will find me on both of these twitter parties tweeting from @maryheston.   I am participating in both for two different sponsors and will be receiving compensation for my participation.  My enthusiasm for twitter parties and my thoughts are my own.  I do often participate in non sponsored twitters parties as well and have won some great prizes by that participation.

* New to Twitter?

To join in on a Twitter party you will need a Twitter Account.

Go to http://www.twitter.com and sign up.
This will take you about 15 minutes but the instructions for setting up a new account are pretty straighforward.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to send a message to support [at] stayathomemom.com via email or send me a tweet.
On the night of the party put the hashtag phrase (the # sign followed by the keyword being used during the twitter party to identify the conversation) into the search bar within twitter.  It will give you a list of all of the tweets going out to that twitter party.

When you are responding to comments or questions going on in the twitter party be sure to include the hashtag so that everyone participating will also see your comment. The only way to be eligible for the twitter party prizes is for the organizers to know you are participating.  The only way to do that is by using the hashtag.

Have Fun!  Often times these twitter parties move pretty fast and sometimes you may feel like some of the participants are speaking a different language.  Sometimes people forget to include the hashtag and so you may only see a part of the conversation.  This can be wildly confusing if you are new to it.  But don't worry or stress out.  You will have fun and the more you participate the more fun you will begin to have.

Finally (and once again) if you have any questions (even stupid questions - although there are no stupid questions just stupid people [just kidding]) contact us via email, facebook, gplus, twitter, or here.

Tweet with you soon!
