Stovetop or Scratch?

This afternoon I was sitting in a lunchroom having lunch with a friend and I heard the eternal Thanksgiving debate:  Can you still consider your Thanksgiving dinner completely homemade if you are using Stovetop stuffing from the box?  There was a woman talking with her friends saying that she had been proud of her Thanksgiving dinners where everything was made from scratch *except* for the Stovetop stuffing.  She was relaying a conversation she had with another woman who was appalled that Stovetop stuffing would be served as part of a HomeCooked meal.

FULL DISCLOSURE: We have always used StoveTop stuffing every year and not only for Thanksgiving.

LEARNING HOW TO READ IN THE KITCHEN

One of the things we would do together when my boys were learning how to read was to have them read the instructions on food boxes, prepare the food according to those instructions, and see what happened when you follow those directions.  It is a very empowering thing for a kid to not only be able to read the words but to know that they can follow the directions and that it results in something awesome and yummy.  For my boys one of their favorite foods to prepare was Stovetop stuffing.  It could be because it requires heating up water and pouring in the mix.   One of my boys also liked cooking Wild Rice.  It is just about as easy as Stovetop and he loved that it was "Wild".

So join us on Facebook and Gplus and chime in on this ongoing dilemma

(My auntie makes oyster stuffing.... that just doesn't seem right)

This may look like a sponsored post but it's not - we just love Stovetop - Kraft did not provide any compensation or even samples for this enthusiastic endorsement. The link on the site is to an affiliate amazon link where you can purchase Stovetop and have it sent to your house directly.
